
Citrus Summer Rum Punch
Here’s a recipe for a crowd that is sure to please. Along with the punch itself, you’ll make a citrus sugar to infuse the punch with flavor, and also rim your glasses for an extra treat. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the season.
Ingredients
Citrus Sugar:
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest
- 2 teaspoons lime zest
- 2 teaspoons orange zest
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Punch:
- 1/2 cup citrus sugar
- 1/4 cup lime juice about 2 limes
- 1/2 cup lemon juice about 2 lemons
- 2 cups orange juice about 8 oranges
- 2 cups ruby grapefruit juice about 2 grapefruits
- 1/2 cup spiced rum
- 1/4 cup orange flavored liqueur Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
- 1/4 cup Amaretto
To Serve:
- 1/2 cup citrus sugar
- Ice
- 1 bottle sparkling water
- 1 lemon sliced
- 1 lime sliced
- 1 ruby grapefruit sliced
- 1 orange sliced
Instructions
Citrus Sugar:
- Measure the sugar into a bowl.
- Add the fruit zests, and the cinnamon.
- Stir together with a fork, pressing down to blend the sugar with the flavors.
- Cover and let it sit for about 30 minutes in the fridge.
Punch:
- Add half the citrus sugar to a large pitcher or punch bowl.
- Pour in the fruit juices, and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the rum, orange liqueur, and Amaretto. Stir gently to blend.
To Serve:
- When you’re ready to serve, add the remaining half of the citrus sugar to a small bowl.
- Use a wedge of lemon or lime to moisten the rim of each glass, and then press it into the citrus sugar.
- Add ice to each glass, along with 1 or 2 slices of fruit.
- Pour in the punch to about 1-inch of the top of the glass.
- Top with sparkling water.
