Citrus Summer Rum Punch

Here’s a recipe for a crowd that is sure to please. Along with the punch itself, you’ll make a citrus sugar to infuse the punch with flavor, and also rim your glasses for an extra treat. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the season.

Ingredients
  

Citrus Sugar:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 2 teaspoons lime zest
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Punch:

  • 1/2 cup citrus sugar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice about 2 limes
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice about 2 lemons
  • 2 cups orange juice about 8 oranges
  • 2 cups ruby grapefruit juice about 2 grapefruits
  • 1/2 cup spiced rum
  • 1/4 cup orange flavored liqueur Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
  • 1/4 cup Amaretto

To Serve:

  • 1/2 cup citrus sugar
  • Ice
  • 1 bottle sparkling water
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1 lime sliced
  • 1 ruby grapefruit sliced
  • 1 orange sliced

Instructions
 

Citrus Sugar:

  • Measure the sugar into a bowl.
  • Add the fruit zests, and the cinnamon.
  • Stir together with a fork, pressing down to blend the sugar with the flavors.
  • Cover and let it sit for about 30 minutes in the fridge.

Punch:

  • Add half the citrus sugar to a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  • Pour in the fruit juices, and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add the rum, orange liqueur, and Amaretto. Stir gently to blend.

To Serve:

  • When you’re ready to serve, add the remaining half of the citrus sugar to a small bowl.
  • Use a wedge of lemon or lime to moisten the rim of each glass, and then press it into the citrus sugar.
  • Add ice to each glass, along with 1 or 2 slices of fruit.
  • Pour in the punch to about 1-inch of the top of the glass.
  • Top with sparkling water.
